Green Tea has been drunk by the Chinese for thousands of years in the belief that it provides a variety of health benefits. Over the last decades there has been a sizeable amount of evidence accumulated by western scientists to corroborate this tried and tested belief. Green Tea contains powerful anti-oxidants, particularly epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). This anti-oxidant inhibits the growth of cancerous cells and also kills them without damaging the healthy cells around them. EGCG has also been proven to be effective in lowering cholestral, as well as in preventing blood clots from forming. It has been found to be over twice as effective an anti-oxident as the molecularly similar Resveratrol.
To sum up, Green Tea has been linked by research to having properties which combat the following medical conditions :
• cancer
• rheumatoid arthritis
• high cholesterol levels
• cariovascular disease
• infection
• impaired immune function
